October 21, 2017 12:30-3:30pm – A great introduction to Pelagics is being run by Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO). A mini-pelagic trip that Paul will help lead during their Fall “So Many Birds“Festival. Target Birds Early Spring (April):
Black-legged Kittiwake, Northern Fulmar, Sooty and Manx Shearwaters, Red Phalarope, and lingering alcids.
Target Birds Spring (May – June):
Cory’s, Great, Sooty and Manx Shearwaters, Northern Fulmar, Leach’s and Wilson’s Storm Petrels, South Polar Skua, Parasitic, Pomarine, and Long-tailed Jaegers, Red and Red-necked Phalarope, Arctic Tern and others.
Target Birds Summer (August – Early September):
Wilson’s, Leach’s, Band-rumped, and White-faced Storm-petrels, Cory’s, Great, Audubon’s, and Manx Shearwater, Pomarine, Parasitic, and Long-tailed Jaegers, South Polar Skua, Arctic Tern, Red-necked Phalarope and others.
Target Birds Fall (October – November):
Cory’s, Great, and Manx Shearwaters, Red Phalarope, Kittiwake, Pomarine and Parasitic Jaegers. Hoping to find Rarities! Exploration of this seas at this time is mostly to find rare species like Cape Verde Shearwater, and many others.
Target Birds Winter (Jan – March):
Dovekie, Common and Thick-billed Murres, Razorbill, Atlantic Puffin, Northern Fulmar, Black-legged Kittiwake, Iceland, Glaucous, Lesser Black-backed Gulls and others.
